Plus!Patch 2.0.1 Beta for Messenger 2009: the first Patch Skin

None of the existing skins is currently compatible with this Messenger version. However for your convenience I have updated an existing Patch Skin (Skin Patch?) named “Plus!Patch”. It features

  • Removing sign-in window links
  • Removing advertisements in chat window and contact list
  • Removing e-mail- and other buttons in the contact list toolbar
  • Removing the yellow information bar in both contact list and chat windows (or only one of them, at your choice)
  • Moving the word wheel (contact search + buttons on the right) to the bottom of the contact list, or hiding it completely
  • Hide any of the buttons Messenger Plus! adds to the chat windows

And this is what a Messenger chat window looks like with all available options applied:

  1. I’m using WLM 2008 but was prompted to get this updated version of the skin. Now I get the Tiny Display Pictures, which are cool, but I no longer see the option to hide the adverts…

  2. The Automatic Updater of Plus! and the Official Skins Database distribute the Version “Plus!Patch N”, which doesn’t offer the Advertisement Hiding Options (only as .reg files). So grab the version from this posting, install it over the one you got, and you have the checkboxes back. 🙂

  3. there are options on the skin that say: setting not available for Windows 2009

Like center toolbars, hide search bar,etc

  4. mynetx-
Thank you for your comment, pointing out that the download from this page is different (and superior) to the download from the Plus! website. I just installed the Plus! Patch and it seems to be working great with WLM 2009 on XP. I hope to see more updates in the future. Great Work and Thank You!!

    1. Lord Tinuviel: Please remember that this is only Version 2.0.1 Beta, that is, more options are going to be available when I found out how to make them possible. Also, please note that the next release of this skin will remove support for Windows Live Messenger 8.5, as Microsoft is going to force mandatory updating to 2009 in a time. This will be the time to add options which make sense only in 2009 anyways. Just be a little patient… 🙂

Jason Cowboy: Removing the visible options to hide advertisements was the only way to have the skin added to the Official Database.

Skins that allow any of Messenger’s advertisements to be hidden will not be accepted. Keep in mind that maintaining the Messenger network is neither free nor cheap for Microsoft. Advertisements are their main source of revenue, just like they are for us.

thanks, I dont have a problem with be patient, I really like what you have done, thanks

  6. Hi! Option “remove advertisement” (both from contact list and chat window) doesn’t work with the latest update of Windows Live Messenger.

    Thanks in advance!

    The same…

  8. Sadly Plus!Patch 2.0.1 is not working for me with last version of MSN Live 2009, Try to use the 2.0.2 version which I grabbed from MSG Plus Skin site but the options to hide advertisement aren’t available anymore.

    I miss Mess Patch.

I will update the PlusPatch skin in the next time. In the meantime you might want to have a look at A-Patch, providing similar options.

  9. Not yet. I had to freeze scripting and skinning work for some weeks due to a different Messenger Plus! related project.

  10. hm, does this come with colour?
because it will be really confusing with evey one else that has the colour but i wont, so does it?

    1. Hello Rosie,
I guess this skin is not fully compatible with the latest Messenger 2009 version (build 8064), but if it does work, it supports all core Messenger features, including scenes and colors.
