About
I'm Joachim Rütter, a full-stack developer currently visiting Serekunda, The Gambia. I've been writing about technology since 2008, when I started mynetx.net as a multilingual tech blog covering Windows, Mac, and everything in between.
Back then, the blog grew to over 300 articles and 50,000 monthly visitors. I was a Microsoft MVP and published books on topics from Windows 10 to Google AdSense. I also worked as a professional translator, localizing Twitter into German at Lionbridge.
What this blog is now
mynetx.net is back — simpler, more focused, and written from a different part of the world.
I write about the technology I actually use: my Mac, my iPhone, AI tools like Claude and ChatGPT, and what it's like to work as a developer from West Africa on a 4Mbps connection with frequent power outages.
This isn't a news site. I don't race to publish rumors or press releases. Instead, I write when I have something genuinely useful or interesting to share — usually about once a month.
Topics I cover
- Apple & Mac — macOS, iOS, hardware, the ecosystem
- AI tools — Claude, ChatGPT, Ollama, and how I actually use them
- Tech in developing countries — internet, power, infrastructure, Starlink
- Apps & tools — things that work well, especially in constrained environments
- Developer topics — occasionally, when something catches my attention
