How-to: Remove mouse shadow in Windows 7, Vista, XP

OSX mouse cursorWindows likes to please you with numerous visual features. Windows are transparent, menus open in 3D style, and your mouse cursor shows a decent shadow. If you want to be more classic, you can disable some of the gimmicks. Advanced Windows users like to turn off the mouse shadow, for example. This is how it works:

  1. Open Control Panel from your start menu.
  2. If you are using Windows 7 or Vista, click “Appearance and Customization | Customize”.
If you are using Windows XP, click “Appearance and Designs”.
  3. Then, click “Change mouse cursor” and switch to the “Pointer” tab.
  4. Remove the check box at “Enable pointer shadow” and confirm your change by clicking OK.

The mouse shadow is now gone.
