Here is now to solve error code 8e5e0713 when you try to sign in to Messenger. In short, you have to configure your firewall correctly. Let’s have a look at the single steps.

Check your firewall settings. Messenger should be white-listed there to work properly.

If you are using Windows Firewall, try the following.

Windows XP:
Click Start, Control Panel, Windows Firewall.

Windows Vista or Windows 7:
Click Start, Control Panel, Security, Windows Firewall, Change settings.

Switch to the Exceptions tab and check if there is a checked entry Windows Live Messenger. If there isn’t any, check the checkbox, adding Messenger as exception.

Now click OK, and try to sign in to Messenger.

If it still doesn’t work, you will have to re-install Messenger.

First uninstall Messenger. Being a Windows XP user, do this:

Click Start, Control Panel, Add and Remove Programs.

A list of installed applications appears.

Click Windows Live Essentials, and choose Change/Uninstall.

A wizard for uninstalling Messenger opens.

If you are using Windows Vista or Windows 7, uninstalling works like this:

Click Start, Control Panel, Programs, Uninstall program.

A list of installed applications appears.

Click Windows Live Essentials, and choose Change/Uninstall.

A wizard for uninstalling Messenger opens.

Now re-install Messenger. Visit http://download.live.com/messenger to get details.

After the setup, reboot your computer.

Don’t forget: if all these steps did not help you, talk to the Windows Live support at http://support.live.com/ and they will be glad to help you out.
