The user interface of Calendar compared to Events is just not up to par, though.

I've just created a calendar and then tried to create an event in the calendar. The browser (IE8) just sat there saying "Saving". I eventually closed the browser, reopened the calendar and found the event there! However, I cannot edit it. Nothing happens.

Also, Events have discussions and a guest list. That functionality just vanishes with the loss of that service.

Very disappointed. I'll have to see if there is another Event service out there now. Calendar just isn't going to be a good enough replacement.
